One Broke Girl #1

So excited to start this series!! :)This is a series I'm starting about all my part-time jobs that I've ever had in my lifetime.
If you would like to guest post and share your story, please email me at loveee.sarah@gmail.com!
Thanks!

Now I'm just going to dive in, okay?!

  • The place I worked at:

    • My first job was at 15. I received a work permit from my high school and started working for a family friend who owned a BASKIN 31 ROBBINS!

  • Job title
    • I have no idea what my title was... :)
  • Job duties
    • Cashier, scoop ice cream, decorate cakes, make sundaes, banana splits, and shakes. Clean floors, tables, bathroom, and equipment.
  • Pros and cons
    • Pros: Made some money (at 15 it was a good deal), eating lots of samples, making my own concoctions, learning to decorate cakes, having cute coworkers, and running the cash register! My arm also got stronger from scooping :) Yes, just ONE arm.
    • Cons: Equipment took forever to clean up, I slipped on the floor while it was wet, It gets pretty messy making those shakes, and I totally hated any kind of sports team coming in after a win! It was a small place and imagine scooping ice cream for like 15-20 people when it's just two of you working! That's craziness!
  • And lastly, what skill I still use till this day from the specific job.
    • You may not think I acquired any skills working at this job, but let me tell you! I can scoop perfectly to this day! I have not forgotten how to scoop. So next time we have a girls night, bring the ice cream and I'll show you the perfect ice cream scoop. It's perfectly round :) I think that's a pretty cool talent to have... definitely going on my future resume.
    • Also, decorating cakes! Decorating ice cream cakes are a bit different than regular cakes, so I'd say that's a pretty great talent to acquire. You never know when someone is going to ask you to decorate a cake for them! I owe it all to Baskin Robbins for teaching me how to decorate cakes :)
I have to say, Baskin Robbins was one of my favorite jobs ever! I had the coolest bosses and I ate a lot of ice cream! I came to realize that I love the "ice cream" industry! Hahaha!

Thanks for reading!

  3. My first job was at a pizza restaurant. I absolutely hated the sports teams, and all the equipment clean up! I never had to clean up after a milkshake.. but I did have to clean up all the flour and grease. Ick.

  4. My first job was at a church camp, but I wasn't a camp counselor; I worked in the office and I was the "Night Secretary," working from 3 - 11. My roommates worked in the kitchen. It was a fun summer!

  7. That's awesome! I would have loved to work for an Ice Cream shop (and briefly did for about a month when I first moved to Seattle). But I would get so so fat...no control hahaha.

As Roald Dahl once said, “A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.” So add a little nonsense in the comment box! Thanks!
